Donkeys & income through vegetable growing: a better future for Ethiopian women and their families

Project Goal To improve the lives of poor rural women and their households through diversification of livelihood by reducing their burdens and improving their productive times Overall objective The project aims to improve the living conditions of families in rural areas of Ethiopia. By distributing donkeys to women, the physical burden of transporting water is reduced, and their economic independence is promoted. They gain time to grow vegetables, and the project supports them by setting up self-help groups, providing training and materials. Goal of the Project: Contribute in the socioeconomic and psychosocial rehabilitation of the community affected by the civil war in the country. Overall Objective Economic, Social and psychosocial rehabilitation of children and their families whose rights are violated and exposed to physical, psychosocial and economic problems by the civil war in Wore Illu, Jama and Legehida Woredas of south wollo Zone Sub-Objectives of the project 2000 children under risk of hunger accessed food for three months until the harvests of their families are ready. Becoming stronger together – Women’s SHG and clean water

General Objective: The socioeconomic situation of women and their communities in the project area has improved. Project Goal Women are taking advantage of new income opportunities and improved access to water to improve their socioeconomic situation and their families’ standard of living. Subgoal One Sustainable water access, water management and WASH practices in the project area are improved. Subgoal Three Women have skills and the means to engage in income-generating activities. Subgoal Two Men’s awareness of gender equality is improved and women’s participation in society is expanded. Subgoal Four Exchange of experience is made possible and the positive effects of self-organization and empowerment are further disseminated.
