Project name: Sustainable land management practice for livelihood improvement – project

Project Period: January 1st 2019 to December 31st 2020.

Ultimate long-term goal: Contribute to the creation of sustainable livelihood source for farmers through promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

Activity Description: main activities of the project are improving the soil nutrient level to insure sustainability of the agricultural practice and protecting the biomass. The two main categories of implementation are:

 

  1. Soil Nutrient management practices and livelihood diversification: the activity is planned to improve the agricultural productivity of framers in sustainable manner. Soil nutrient management activities will be promoted among 450(150 female) farmers to eliminate usage of chemical fertilizer to maintain soil fertility.

 

  1. Enhancing the environmental protection practice by involving 2,800 small holder farmers in sustainable land management activities. The planned activities include biological and physical rehabilitation of degraded lands.

 

Implementation area: Omonada, Tiroafeta and Kersa woredas of Jimma zone of Oromiya regional state

Project name: SEWOH – Nutrition Security in Sekela (Amhara)

Project Period: January 1, 2019- June 30the 2023

Activity Description:

The major project activities are

  • Enhancing agricultural production and productivity through organizing farmers into Farmers Learning Groups (FLGs), promoting improved agronomic practices, highland fruits, improved poultry farming, modern beekeeping small scale irrigation practices. The project will also strengthen existing cooperatives, develop local production and marketing structures, promote agroforestry practices, forage production and integrated soil fertility.
  • Improving incomes of landless young people and women from food-insecure households through Promoting access to savings & loans for vulnerable women, organizing landless youth in groups providing business skill training
  • Improving the local capacities for disaster risk reduction and the protection of natural resources through strengthening early-warning committees, protecting and rehabilitating degraded land, developing water sources

Target Beneficiaries: the project works with 700 poor women, 700 smallholder farmers, and 200 landless youth.

  • Enhancing agricultural production and productivity through organizing farmers into Farmers Learning Groups (FLGs), promoting improved agricultural practices, supporting small scale irrigation practices, promoting improved livestock production and strengthening existing cooperatives
  • Diversifying the livelihood and source of income for HHs and landless youth through organizing the women into saving and credit groups, supporting rural women to engage alternative income sources and creating alternative livelihoods for landless youth and farmers.
  • Strengthening early warning systems and building the capacity of the community readiness to bounce back, awareness creation and supporting the preparation of household and community level contingency plans
  • Improving natural resource conservation and rehabilitation practices through awareness raising and promoting physical and biological natural resource conservation practices

 Target Beneficiaries: the project works with 1080 poor women, 540 farmers and 180 landless youth.
