Facilitator for change (FC) started to support drought affected communities

In order to support the government effort in combating the impact of the drought, FC started to intervene on the drought in Enebsie Sar Midir Woreda of East Gojam Zone of Amhara region with the financial support obtained from its strategic partner kindernothilfe staring from May 2016. The intervention has three major focuses.

The first focus is on supporting children to continue their education by fulfilling their basic demands. To this effect, a school feeding program is started for 6000 children in 11 elementary schools. In addition, it will support children with basic educational materials.

In order to improve access of the drought affected population to drinking water, FC is also working on water and sanitation to benefit 39,000 community members. This is being accomplished through rehabilitating water sources and education on water treatment.

Moreover, in order to rehabilitate the livelihood of 18,800 affected households it has stated to provide drought resistant seed for worst affected households to make them ready for the next harvesting seasons. Some of them have already sown maize seed.

FC would like to thank Kindernothilfe and the different offices of Amhara region for their unreserved support for the project.
