Shenani Integrated Community Development Project

The Name Sheneni was given for the project by the community and stakeholder to relate the project focus with its name. Sheneni is Afan Oromo word; which mean “the fifth day of the child in this world”. In Oromo Culture a ceremony is held on this day to welcome a newly born child and family, relative and other participants on the ceremony express their commitment to care, support and wish the wellbeing of the child.

Being child focused organization, Facilitator for Change with fund from Kinder Not Hilfe (KNH) is implementing Sheneni Integrated Community Development Project inSekaChokorsa and Mannadistricts of Jimma Zone.The project is mainly targeted children, marginalized women, farmers and youths.It is addressing the targets with Women capacity enhancement, Food Security & value chain development and Education and skill training interventions.Through these interventions, it is working to ensure children wellbeing and creating child friendly environment in the woredas.

The project in its first phase (2014-2018) is intended to address the following beneficiaries

As of June 2015, the project has organized 632 poor women in 33 Self- help groups (SHG), 230 farmers in to 11 farmer learning groups (FLG), 12 youth inyouth business group and 363 children in 11 child clubs. The self- help groups, farmer learning groups and youth group have saved more than 80,000 ETB and started internal loan to engage in business activity.The project in collaboration with the stakeholders is facilitating capacity building so that their capacity enhanced to run income generating activityto improve their livelihoods.
